Women Impacting Nigeria visited the Sunday Stephen Mirian Orphanage Home in Lagos, on the 16th of December, 2023, in conjunction with the Child and Youth Protection Foundation (CYPF).

The outreach visit, termed ‘A Ray of Hope And Light For Christmas’ created a memorable and joyful Christmas celebration for the children residing in Sunday Stephen Mirian Orphanage Home.

The visit also focused on raising awareness about the danger of child marriage and how to ensure child protection.

The visit featured an enlightening session where the children were engaged in age-appropriate discussions about pertinent issues such as their rights, the harmful effects of child marriage, and the importance of education, gender equality, and child protection. These conversations empowered and educated the children to understand their rights and the actions they can take to safeguard themselves.

The children were also made to understand how child marriage affects millions of girls across Nigeria; with emphasis on how it limits educational opportunities, and exposes girls to serious physical and psychological harm.

The visit also featured an empowering session where the children were taught about values and ways they can achieve their future ambitions, after which the orphanage were presented with gift items and donations.

‘A Ray of Hope And Light For Christmas project’ brought happiness to the faces of the children of Sunday Stephen Mirian Orphanage Home. In light of the yuletide season, the visit also resulted in a memorable and joyful Christmas celebration for the children.

Women Impacting Nigeria remains committed to education, gender equality, and the protection of the girl child.
