On August 26, 2023, Women Impacting Nigeria (WIN) successfully hosted the 2023 edition of its Widows Empowerment Program (WEP) in Bariga, Lagos State. This impactful event was held in collaboration with the Beatrice Ado Kola-Balogun Foundation.
The Widows Empowerment Program is a key initiative of WIN, designed to support widows who manage small business enterprises and are in need of financial assistance to grow their ventures. This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 1 and 5, aiming to eliminate poverty and promote gender equality through financial inclusion.
Over the years, WEP has empowered numerous women-owned businesses and widows with grants, digital skills, business management training, and essential tools. The 2023 edition continued this mission, featuring comprehensive financial literacy sessions led by experienced facilitators.
Based on a thorough needs assessment, each beneficiary received a grant of ₦100,000 to support their business and overall well-being. This year’s recipients included Jemilat Raji, Ayeni Mujirat, Alimot Uthman, Prisca Njoku, and Moji Adedoyin.
The event saw a strong turnout from the local community, with beneficiaries expressing their heartfelt gratitude for the support. The grants were met with enthusiasm, and the financial education provided was highly appreciated by all attendees.
Women Impacting Nigeria remains dedicated to advancing financial inclusion and supporting widows through initiatives like WEP, continuing to drive positive change in the lives of women across Nigeria.
