Empowering Nigeria’s Women: WIN’s Creative Skills Training Success

What happens when 150 women are given the tools to dream big? On August 28 – 29, 2025, the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Hall in Lagos State became a hub of transformation. In partnership with Terra Academy for the Arts (TAFTA) and funded by the Mastercard Foundation, WIN (Women in Nigeria), a nonprofit dedicated to women’s empowerment, hosted a groundbreaking Creative Skills Training Program. For two days, young women from grassroots communities ignited their potential, learning skills to thrive in Nigeria’s booming creative economy.

Why the Creative Economy Matters

The creative industry is a global powerhouse, yet many young women in Nigeria lack access to the training and mentorship needed to succeed. Our program tackled this gap head-on, offering hands-on training in Art Business & Entrepreneurship, Script Writing, Stage Lighting, Sound Design, and Animation. This wasn’t just a workshop, it was a launchpad for dreams.

  • 60% had never attended professional training before, marking their first step toward empowerment.
  • 100% rated the training as “Good” or “Excellent.”
  • 95% felt confident or very confident in applying their new skills.
  • 100% would recommend the program to others in their community.
