Women Impacting Nigeria (WIN) is honoured to be part of Nigeria’s delegation to the 70th Commission on the Status of Women, currently taking place at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.
Representing the organisation at this global gathering is WIN’s founder, Adesuwa Imasekha, whose work has helped position Women Impacting Nigeria as an organisation committed to empowering women, strengthening communities, and creating economic opportunities across Nigeria.
WIN is participating as part of the Nigerian delegation led by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, as global leaders and advocates gather to advance conversations around gender equality, women’s empowerment, and inclusive social development.
For Women Impacting Nigeria, participation in CSW70 represents an opportunity not only to contribute to global dialogue but also to showcase the organisation’s growing impact in supporting Nigerian women and fostering sustainable economic opportunities.
A Global Platform for Gender Equality
The Commission on the Status of Women is the world’s largest annual gathering dedicated to advancing women’s rights and promoting gender equality.
Each year, governments, civil society organisations, development agencies, and activists convene to review global progress and identify solutions to the challenges women and girls continue to face.
For Women Impacting Nigeria, engaging in these global conversations aligns with the organisation’s mission to build pathways for women’s leadership, entrepreneurship, and economic independence.
Under the leadership of Adesuwa Imasekha, WIN has focused on initiatives that empower women not only through advocacy but also through skills development, mentorship, and job creation opportunities. The organisation’s programmes aim to equip women with the tools and networks needed to participate fully in Nigeria’s growing economy.
Beyond advocacy, Women Impacting Nigeria is also contributing to employment and capacity-building efforts by creating opportunities for professionals, volunteers, and community leaders to participate in programmes that support women’s development and social progress.
Conversations Shaping the Future of Women
Across the corridors of the United Nations during CSW70, discussions are focused on practical solutions that can accelerate progress for women and girls globally.
One key area of focus is justice for women and girls, with sessions highlighting the need to remove legal and structural barriers that limit women’s opportunities. From discriminatory laws to gaps in access to legal support, delegates are examining ways to strengthen inclusive justice systems that protect women in every community.
For organisations like Women Impacting Nigeria, these conversations are directly connected to the realities women face in developing economies. By participating in these discussions, Adesuwa Imasekha is helping ensure that the voices and experiences of Nigerian women are represented in global policy conversations.
Ministerial roundtables have also focused on financing strategies to accelerate gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. Leaders from governments, development agencies, and financial institutions are exploring innovative funding models to support women entrepreneurs, expand access to education, and strengthen social protections for families.
These discussions resonate strongly with the work of Women Impacting Nigeria, which continues to advocate for increased investment in women-led initiatives and economic programmes that can drive both employment and long-term community development.
Strengthening Women’s Leadership and Economic Opportunity
Another major theme at CSW70 is women’s leadership and political participation.
Delegates are addressing the persistent gender gap in decision-making spaces and exploring solutions such as leadership development programmes, mentorship networks, and policy reforms that support women entering governance and public leadership.
Women Impacting Nigeria believes that expanding women’s leadership must go hand-in-hand with economic empowerment and job creation. By supporting women entrepreneurs, developing leadership capacity, and providing opportunities for women to participate in economic activity, organisations like WIN are helping to build stronger communities and more resilient economies.
Through its programmes and partnerships, WIN continues to create opportunities that empower women to become employers, innovators, and leaders within their communities.
The Energy of the NGO CSW Forum
Running alongside the official meetings is the NGO CSW Forum, a vibrant hub hosting more than 750 side events organised by civil society organisations from around the world.
These sessions include grassroots advocacy workshops, youth leadership dialogues, storytelling panels, and interactive discussions focused on innovation and social change.
For Adesuwa Imasekha, the forum provides an opportunity to engage directly with global stakeholders, exchange ideas, and explore partnerships that can strengthen the work Women Impacting Nigeria is doing on the ground.
These interactions are essential in building collaborations that can expand opportunities for Nigerian women, support entrepreneurship, and create sustainable employment pathways.
Looking Ahead
As the 70th Commission on the Status of Women continues in New York City, the conversations and partnerships emerging from the forum will help shape future strategies aimed at advancing gender equality worldwide.
For Women Impacting Nigeria, participation at CSW70 reflects the organisation’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerian perspectives are represented in global discussions while continuing to drive real impact at home.
Through the leadership of Adesuwa Imasekha, WIN remains focused on empowering women, creating opportunities for economic participation, and contributing to a future where women across Nigeria can thrive as leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs.
