Empowering Nigeria’s Women: WIN’s Creative Skills Training Success

What happens when 150 women are given the tools to dream big and succeed in the creative economy?

On August 28–29, 2025, the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Hall in Lagos State became a hub for women empowerment and skills development. In partnership with Terra Academy for the Arts (TAFTA) and funded by the Mastercard Foundation, Women Impacting Nigeria (WIN) hosted a high-impact Creative Skills Training Program.

For two transformative days, young women from underserved communities gained practical, in-demand creative skills to help them build careers, start businesses, and achieve financial independence.

Why Creative Skills Training Matters for Women in Nigeria

Nigeria’s creative industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors globally, offering opportunities in film, media, design, and digital content creation. However, many women, especially at the grassroots level, lack access to structured training, mentorship, and funding.

This program directly addressed that gap by equipping participants with industry-relevant skills and entrepreneurial knowledge.

Skills Covered in the Training Program

Participants received hands-on training in:

  • Art Business & Entrepreneurship
  • Script Writing
  • Stage Lighting
  • Sound Design
  • Animation

By combining creativity with entrepreneurship, the program ensured that participants didn’t just learn skills, they learned how to monetize them.

Impact of the WIN Creative Skills Training Program

The success of the program highlights the growing need for accessible women empowerment initiatives in Nigeria.

Key Results:

  • 150 women trained in creative and business skills
  • 60% first-time trainees, gaining access to professional learning for the first time
  • 100% satisfaction rate, with participants rating the program “Good” or “Excellent”
  • 95% confidence boost in applying newly acquired skills
  • 100% recommendation rate within their communities

These results demonstrate the effectiveness of targeted skills development programs in driving economic empowerment for women.

Real Stories from Women Empowered Through Skills Training

The true impact of this initiative is best seen through the voices of the participants:

“I came here with no prior training experience. Today, I feel like I can finally start the creative business I’ve always dreamed about.”
— Desola, Art Business & Entrepreneurship

“The facilitators opened my eyes to opportunities I never thought existed in the arts. I am leaving with clarity and confidence.”
— Esther, Art Business & Entrepreneurship

These stories reflect a powerful shift, from uncertainty to confidence, and from potential to action.

The Role of Partnerships in Women Empowerment

Strategic collaboration played a key role in the success of this initiative.

Through its partnership with Terra Academy for the Arts and funding support from the Mastercard Foundation, Women Impacting Nigeria continues to expand access to opportunities for women across Nigeria.

These partnerships ensure sustainability, scale, and long-term impact in the creative economy.

Building the Future: Women in the Creative Economy

This program is more than a short-term intervention, it is part of a broader mission to empower women through skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, and access to opportunity.

As these 150 women return to their communities, they are equipped not only with skills but with the confidence to lead, create, and inspire others.

At Women Impacting Nigeria, we believe that empowering women is key to building stronger economies and more resilient communities.
