On December 16, 2023, Women Impacting Nigeria, in partnership with the Child and Youth Protection Foundation (CYPF), visited the Sunday Stephen Mirian Orphanage Home in Lagos. The outreach, titled ‘A Ray of Hope and Light for Christmas,’ aimed to bring joy and festive cheer to the children residing at the orphanage.
The visit not only celebrated Christmas but also focused on raising awareness about the dangers of child marriage and the importance of child protection. The event featured engaging and age-appropriate discussions on critical topics such as children’s rights, the harmful effects of child marriage, and the significance of education, gender equality, and personal safety.
The children were educated about how child marriage affects millions of girls across Nigeria, emphasizing its impact on educational opportunities and its potential for serious physical and psychological harm.
Additionally, an empowering session was conducted to teach the children about personal values and strategies for achieving their future goals. The day concluded with the presentation of gift items and donations to the orphanage.
‘A Ray of Hope and Light for Christmas’ brought smiles and happiness to the children at Sunday Stephen Mirian Orphanage Home, making the Christmas season truly special for them.
Women Impacting Nigeria remains dedicated to advancing education, gender equality, and the protection of the girl child.
