Gender Advocacy Walk With COPESA

To further advance the cause of women and girls in Nigeria, Women Impacting Nigeria held a Gender Advocacy Walk in partnership with COPESA (Community Participation and Empowerment Scheme Augmentation).

This event took place on Thursday May 11, 2023 and brought together local households, civil societies and global stakeholders for the joint collaboration of the SDGs implementation in Africa, particularly on creating awareness on women and girls’ rights.

Beginning with a sensitization talk at the Abesan entrance gate, Mosan Okunola LCDA, Alimosho, the gender advocacy procession went round the entire community, and ended at the Abesan Youth Centre. Over 250 people participated in the gender advocacy walk, including a significant number of Abesan community members. The walk also attracted students from Fesbach College Abesan and Dee Unique College Abesan, who came in their numbers to learn and participate.

This program is in line with SDG 5, (Gender Equality), which we believe is fundamental to the achievement of other Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria.

A lecture on the importance of the SDGs was given at the event, with a focus on community participation for national building and elimination of gender based violence.

Other noteworthy organizations such as GLOHWOC and FIDA (International Federation of Women Lawyers) participated at this event, including volunteers and members of WIN’s community.

At WIN, gender equality is at the center of everything we do. We also recognize that enlightening the society and enlisting their participation to promote gender equality is key to the achievement of SDG 5.

With community involvement such as this, Nigeria will be on its way to seeing the SDG goal 5 fulfilled, one community at a time.
